BMW Vision Next 100 Review

The BMW Vision The100 will blow your mind with its incredible features. The amazing car was unveiled at the BMW Group Centenary Event in the Munich Olympic Hall on the 7th of this month to mark 100 years since the company was founded. It isn't just an opportunity to celebrate the achievements of our past, but also to look forward into the exciting times ahead.
The driver is in constant communication with the vehicle in an intuitive and natural way. At the same time, the vehicle expands the driver’s range of perception and transforms him or her into the “Ultimate Driver”; the best driver they can possibly be.
According to BMW, the concept is able to alter itself to meet the driver's desires and habits, not just in terms of tweaking the suspension or switching off the traction control, but in physically altering the car itself on the go and anticipating and even improving the driver's performance.
BMW Vision Next 100 doors open automatically and the steering column retracts into the dash thanks to sensors that recognize the driver as they approach. Pressing the BMW logo on the dashboard closes the door and extends the column again. Its wheels are hidden underneath intelligent mesh of triangles that shift and change the shape of the body as the wheels turn to help cut down the drag coefficient to 0.18.
The car has the ability to switch between BOOST mode “human driving” and EASE mode “full autonomous mode”.
In Boost, the Vision Next 100 configures itself around the driver as they take control of the vehicle; the steering wheel and seat shifts and the vehicle itself morphs to indicate the ideal driving line, steering point and speed, and the center console angles itself toward the driver. The driver can also interact with the car by means of gesture control.
In Ease, the concept car alters itself for full autonomous mode; the steering wheel and center console retract, the headrests turn sideways, and the seats and door trim merge into each other which will allow the driver and passengers to face one another and relax as the car takes over the task of handling the commute or long road trips. T he head-up display switches to personalized content and entertainment, and augmented displays highlight the passing scenery.
The digital intelligence of the BMW Vision Next 100 is concentrated in the Companion, which uses sensors and artificial intelligence to study the driver and help to both improve their skills and adjust the car to their preferences. Perfect connectivity between the user and the surroundings enables the BMW Companion to always provide the right recommendations to meet personal mobility preferences, both during driving and outside the vehicle.
The Companion is a small, gem-like element next to the windscreen which lies flat in the dash when not fully active, but rises up in Ease mode not only to display data, but also to act as a light-up warning on the front of the vehicle to pedestrians that the Vision is under full autonomous control.
BMW Vision Next 100 uses Alive Geometry which performs two main functions. On the one hand, it serves as an analogue display system on the dashboard, alerting the driver to incidents and objects ahead. From the exterior, the Alive Geometry is visible in the form of movable wheelhouse covers for optimal aerodynamics.

BMW i8 Review

The BMW i8 is the first sports car with the consumption and emission values of a compact car which gets up to 76 MPGe efficiency. The strength of the plug-in hybrid lies, among other factors, in the perfect synchronisation of electric motor and combustion engine, which makes itself apparent in maximum efficiency and dynamics on the road.

With each detail working toward channeling airflow for greater efficiency, aerodynamics plays a key role in the design of the BMW i8. Additionally, the streamflow design of the vehicle’s rear wing helps provide significant downforce all the way up to the electronically limited top speed of 155 mph.
From front to back, the BMW i8 is dedicated to reducing drag by employing EfficientDynamic ventilation technologies. These vents actively open and close to provide additional cooling, reduce the coefficient of drag, and improve the vehicle’s overall aerodynamics. Also, the front Air Curtains help channel airflow through the back vents to cool the TwinPower Turbo 3-cylinder engine in the rear of the car.
The choice to use lightweight materials in the construction helps make this plug-in hybrid vehicle as aerodynamic and sporty as possible. Its two-part structure uses both aluminum and Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) for their rigidity and extreme lightness in comparison to steel. As opposed to conventional glass, the acoustic separator between the engine and the cabin is made from substantially lighter chemically hardened glass.
BMW i8 combines an electric motor with a combustion engine for unparalleled power and performance. Launching from 0 to 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, this vehicle is as efficient as it is dynamic. The all-electric motor is situated on the front axle, while the TwinPower Turbo 1.5-litre, 3-cylinder engine drives the rear axle. When combined, these two elements deliver an innovative all-wheel drive sports car with a total system output of 357 horsepower, 420 lb-ft of torque as well as an added electrical boost inherent to eDrive vehicles.
It takes two and a half hours for BMW i8 to fully charge. This charging technology can be found at over 23,300 U.S. public charging facilities or from a Level 2 charging station installed at home. Energy can be repurposed while driving to charge the battery from thrust, braking, or directly from the gas engine. It can also be recovered whenever you’re hungry for an extra boost of power.
The Driving Experience Control switch on the center console offers various driving modes. The standard COMFORT mode offers a balance between sporty performance and fuel efficiency. SPORT mode features the ultra-intense boost function provided by the electric motor. ECO PRO mode supports a more efficient, optimized driving style which can be used in both all-electric mode and hybrid mode. Finally, eDRIVE mode is purely electric, offering a max range of up to 15 miles and a max speed of 75 mph for a totally tailpipe emission-free ride.

Nissian Concept 2020 Vision GT

The Nissan Concept 2020 Vision Gran Turismo began life as dream project for young Nissan designers who were given free rein to create the perfect supercar for their own Gran Turismo fantasy garage.

Borrowing design cues from current Nissan supercars and adding a dash of the futuristic, the design from a team at Nissan Design Europe in London, England were impressive enough to engage a Nissan engineering team in Japan to make the four-wheel drive chassis with active suspension.

The 2+2 sport car uses a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 gas engine paired with an electric motor. A five-speed sequential transmission with a carbon clutch and pneumatic paddle shifters gets 1,240 horsepower to the ground.
The organic-looking front fenders and the geometric rear fenders both surround the tires to meet each other, and the air rushing forth from the front is cut apart and led into the body with its precision features. The air entering the front side inlet goes through the inner side of the wheels, and is drawn out in an accelerated manner due to the exhaust under the front fender outlet. This allows the body to cut through the wall of air at high speeds with minimal effort. Behind this point a flow is created in the rear fender allowing the air to escape behind, minimizing the turbulence behind the car.
The rear active wing is raised or lowered according to speed, and at 300 km/h (186 miles per hour) it pushes over 400 kg of downforce directly onto the differential block. At the under floor, the front upsweep which leads air from the under floor to the front fender outlet combined with the large rear diffuser creates a strong vacuum, producing downforce equivalent to that of racing cars. There are many ideas like this which utilize everything for a driving advantage, effectively applied along with its speed.
The powertrain utilizes a high performance hybrid FR-4WD system with a V6 twin turbo engine, combined with 3 motors. The high output motors in the front and rear produces instant and powerful acceleration under any condition with the push of the pedal, and the acceleration is maintained by the engine to your next corner. The torque vectoring of the individual front motors on the left and right, and the active suspension maximizing aerodynamic performance at all times results in smooth cornering performance even at extremely high speeds, perfecting a car that packs performance that can unleash the driver at any speed range.

Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA

Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA (Intelligent Aerodynamic Automobile) was unveiled at the IAA (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung) Cars 2015. It is an aerodynamics world champion with a drag coefficient of 0.19 and a four-door coupé embodying irresistible design.

The vehicle transforms from design mode to aerodynamic mode at a push of a button or automatically when the vehicle reaches a speed of 80 km/h (about 50 miles per hour), whereby numerous aerodynamics measures alter the shape of the vehicle.

It’s great transformation includes eight segments extend at the rear, increasing its length by up to 390 mm; front flaps in the front bumper extend by 25 mm to the front and 20 mm to the rear, improving the air flow around the front end and the front wheel arches; the Active Rims alter their cupping from 55 mm to zero; and the louvre in the front bumper moves 60 mm to the rear, improving the underbody air flow.

Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA features Car-to-X technology, for example, which enables the study to communicate with other vehicles or other sources of information. This represents a major advance in helping to avoid accidents, as obstacles or events which are not visible to the vehicle itself can be detected.

The interior of the car combines stylish sportiness with modern luxury and continues the design line of the S-Class and S-Class Coupé. The choice of colours and materials conjures up extrovert contrasts between anthracite and white as well as between aluminium and cut glass. Elegantly curved forms, flowing lines, high-quality materials and the touch-based operating philosophy provide for a high level of functionality.

The steering wheel incorporates touch-based operating functions, offering great functionality in the most compact dimensions as a study in perfect ergonomics: OFN (Optical Finger Navigation) buttons, embedded in the clusters in a similar hovering manner as the touchpad in the centre console, enable the driver to scroll through the instrument cluster menus. The OFN button on the left controls the left-hand display, while the button on the right controls the right-hand display.

Mercedes-Benz Concept IAA is powered by a petrol/electric plug-in hybrid drive with a total output of 205 kW (279 hp). This provides it with a top speed of 250 km/h (electronically limited). CO₂ emissions and electric range depend on the mode in which the vehicle is tested: in aerodynamic mode the “Concept IAA” manages an all-electric range of 66 km and CO₂ emissions at 28 g/km. In design mode the range stands at 62 km and CO₂ emissions at 31 g/km.
